Epilepsy Parents - Supporting Parents and Children with Epilepsy
My name is Debbie and I am
the founder of Epilepsy Parents and we are an epilepsy support group, the group was started on the 4th
January 2011. We are based in the UK and we
provide support for children with epilepsy, parents with epilepsy and also families that
live with the condition every day. Caring
for someone with
epilepsy can be a very lonely place especially for a parent of a child
that has
been newly diagnosed. Childhood epilepsy can be a very complex
condition. It is our aim to raise the awareness of childhood epilepsy.
We have an 11 year old
daughter with epilepsy and throughout our daughter’s condition and diagnosis we
have found a distinct lack of support for children and young families who live
with epilepsy. So we decided to start a group for ourselves and discuss
epilepsy with other people that are in a similar situation to ourselves.
Epilepsy Parents support group has a Facebook
page and this page gives parents an opportunity to discuss and to share their
experiences of children’s epilepsy and the daily challenges they may face. Also
on our Facebook page we have many parents with epilepsy themselves and they
share their experiences with the condition. You can now also follow us on twitter
The demand for a support
group like Epilepsy Parents that is for children with epilepsy and their families has been
overwhelming and this is why we are working towards gaining charity status. We
are fundraising and holding awareness events all the way through the year so
please take a look at our “News & Events” page. Epilepsy Parents is
eager to tackle the education system. Epilepsy Parents wants to raise the awareness of children’s
epilepsy in schools and introduce educational material for teachers, pupils,
peer groups and siblings and all material would be produced by parents! Also we
would like to introduce training into schools about epilepsy and the over 40 different
types of seizures that a child may have. Thanks for looking at our page and please contact me if i can be of help in anyway Deb
